2024/2025 German Language Classes

Our German Language Program of Portland (GLPOP): 

Our German Language Program of Portland (GLPOP) will begin classes on Saturday, September 21th, 2024. Classes start at 10am and end at 12:30pm. If you have questions please call (503) 775-1585, extension #200.

  • Welcomes all levels of German speakers, from novice to native, aged 5 to adult!

  • Has a fabulous staff of highly experienced native and near-native German speakers, who teach in a full-immersion environment!

  • Provides excellent classroom space for interactive and engaging learning.

  • Matches age-appropriate, skill-appropriate learner groups.

  • Meets 30 times a year, September through May, most Saturdays.

  • Celebrates traditional German holidays such as Martinstag (St. Martin's Day), Nikolaustag (Saint Nicholas Day), Weihnachten (Christmas), Fasching (Carnival), & Maifest (Celebration of Spring).

  • Offers 75 hours of direct instruction leading to the Deutsches Sprachdiplom*

  • Documents student success using the National German Test of the AATG.

  • Has been sponsored by the German American Society since 1964!

  • Encourages all adult students to become active members of the German American Society, to enhance their immersion in the German Language and Culture.

Please note that students must be 5 years of age by September 1, 2024 in order to enroll in our language classes.

Every year the German American Society is proud to honor High School Seniors in the Greater Portland Area with academic scholarships in the amount of $5,000 to $1,000. The awards are based on the students AATG National German Language exam results. Each year in May, recipients will be presented their scholarships at a ceremony to be held in May at the German American Society of Portland at 5626 N.E. Alameda.
